Permits are required for residential and commercial projects. The purpose of a permit is to ensure that all work is performed according to proper standards. A permit entitles the permit holder to the required inspections needed throughout the project. Please contact the building department at (440) 234-2218 to determine permit requirements before beginning any work.
Permits are to be obtained by the contractor actually performing the work. Permits must be obtained, and all permit fees paid, prior to the start of any work. A homeowner may obtain a permit to perform work done at their own residence, provided they sign a Homeowner’s Affidavit certifying they are performing the work in lieu of a licensed contractor.
Homeowners should verify that any and all contractors hired to perform work at their property are licensed and registered with the City of Middleburg Heights, and have properly obtained a permit from the building department. Permit and contractor registration status may be confirmed by calling (440) 234-2218. The building department also maintains a list of contractors currently registered to perform work in the city. This list may be viewed during regular hours of operation; specific inquiries may be made by calling (440) 234-2218.
